The sugar maples are beginning to turn, and the seasonal visitors have closed up their cottages—one more summer has been thoroughly packed away. But the residents of Sea Harbor, Massachusetts, have a celebration to look forward to, until a killer calls sudden death . . .

Back in town to fill a much-needed nursing position at the free clinic, Charlie Chambers, Izzy Perry’s brother, is staying in one of the handful of cottages Angus owns. The yarn shop owner is thrilled he’s in town—though she’d like to know more about his mysterious roommate, Annie Smith. Still, she’s grateful that each morning Charlie checks Angus’s vitals and makes sure he takes his meds.

Meanwhile, Izzy and the other Seaside Knitters are busy planning Angus’s birthday bash, knitting his beloved gulls into everything they make. With bands rehearsing and the menu set, Angus’s celebration promises to be unforgettable. But the day before, when Charlie stops by Angus’s cottage, he finds the old man has died in his sleep. Shocked and saddened, the town decides to go ahead with the festivities, which will now become a celebration of the old man’s life.

But when Angus’s closest friend, Father Northcutt, is found on the floor of Angus’s cottage, unconscious from a deadly blow to his head, Angus’s death is examined more closely, and soon is a suspected homicide. As the knitters delve into Angus’s history, more questions than answers surface. Soon the whole community is concerned over what now looks like murder, a tragedy buried deep in a shameful chapter in Sea Harbor’s past. And one that may point to a killer still in their midst . . .

It’s beginning to feel a lot like tourist season in Sea Harbor, Massachusetts, and beachside shopkeepers are getting ready for the annual wave of visitors. But even before the season starts, the heat is on to find a killer . . .

The Yarn Studio’s Seaside Knitters have their hands full designing new classes for vacationers, as well as testing each other’s originality by creating a single blanket together. Birdie’s teenage granddaughter is also visiting for the season, and soon has plans with her friend Daisy to start a dog-walking business. Meanwhile, the Lazy Lobster and Soup Café’s local fare is gaining newfound attention with the addition of a well-known Boston chef. It’s sure to be another beautiful, busy time in their tightknit town . . .

Until Birdie spots a huge blaze from her balcony one evening, frighteningly close to knitter Cass’s lobster business. But the morning brings news that it was a house in small Fisherman’s Cove, and a familiar fisherman is found dead inside. Not only did the young women walk his beloved sheepdog, Squid, they may have been the last people to see him alive.

When questions surface about the actual timing of the man’s death, it turns out something is more than fishy. As suspicion rocks usually placid Sea Harbor, knitters Izzy, Birdie, Cass, and Nell must pick apart tangled secrets and wrap up false accusations—before the killer hooks another victim . . .

Kirkus Review!

THE HERRINGBONE HARBOR MYSTERY

"A deep dive into the characters’ lives and relationships brings depth to a puzzling mystery."

Four friends continue their habit of bringing murderers to justice.

Wealthy widow Birdie Favazza, lobster company owner Cass Halloran Brandley, yarn studio owner Izzy Chambers Perry, and Izzy’s aunt Nell Endicott form a close circle of amateur sleuths in Sea Harbor, Massachusetts. When Squid, the frightened dog of well-regarded business owner Nick Cabot, turns up at the home of Birdie’s teenage granddaughter, Gabby, who runs a dog-walking business, Gabby knows something bad has happened. Nick is widely beloved in Sea Harbor, and plenty of people have been encouraging him to run against longtime mayor Beatrice Scaglia, whose announcement that she’ll never let that happen gives her an obvious motive when Nick is found shot dead in the burned ruins of his house. In addition to Beatrice, there are other people who didn’t like Nick. Bobby Palazola, the chef at Gracie Santos’ Lazy Lobster and Soup Café, had a sterling reputation as a Boston chef and blames Nick for the bad reviews he’s been getting. And Gracie and Cass are wary of Marco Costa, who works part time helping Bobby buy fish. Marco used to work for Cass, who didn’t trust him, and he overheard the two women asking Nick about him, since the men were neighbors. Slowly, the four women, who—except for Izzy—were born and brought up in Sea Harbor and are related to many of its residents, begin to gather tidbits of information they eventually shuffle into a pattern that will uncover the killer.

A note on book numbering….

I’ve heard from some of you about the confusion when you see the most recent six seaside knitters mystery books,  numbered as 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (the 2023 A twisted Skein). The numbering change is because of a publisher change, but these books follow the first 11 sequentially, so they are actually the 12 through 17 mysteries featuring the Sea Harbor Seaside Knitters. I apologize for any confusion this has caused. (A complete list of the books is available on the books tab of our website here)
